Let us not overlook the possibility that the recent appearance of 'Shopsmith' abrasives in Lowes stores has exposed many new folks to the 'brand' and hence to the internet sites.

There were 113 new member names added to the list yesterday. Of those only two(2) have posted.

What can we do to draw these newbies into our discussions. There must be something. They did not join just to read because they can do that without joining.

There are 19 new members that joined already today.

If the addition of new items into the market place has created this rapid increase in membership, that would be good. Some percentage of those are going to become customers for Shopsmith.

Shopsmith's presence on Facebook could be related but the two events do not coincide nor do they coincide with Lowe's.

So I'm up early today and start thinking about yesterday and how I was not worrying about the soaring membership here. So I took a few minutes to chart the first member (5/24/06) then stepping by 1000's to 16000 (2/28/13).

The following chart shows membership based on that information.

Would be nice if they were real people...but my guess is that it includes a lot more spam bots. I doubt spammers get fully deleted, just banned.

I don't know if they are spammers or just lurking members or false registrations. Somehow I don't see spammer in any of the ones I have tracked.

So far this year, the membership count has increased 4611 members.

The count on January 1 was 11568

on February 1 was 13896

on March 1 was 16079

consistent with Ed's graph.
