A Jet Benchtop Mortising Machine (JBM-5) came with my workshop. I can not forsee ever using it. I am thinking of selling it or trading it.
Should something come up that I would, wouldn't a drill press work the same way, using mortising bits of couse.
Any thoughts?

I have been doing some mortising on recent projects. I purchased a machine at Woodcraft for that purpose. The clerk strongly suggested the Jet. I suggest hanging on to it for awhile. I would be a shame to sell it and then desire having it back. Jim

You need more than just a mortising bit with a drill press. You would have to buy the complete mortising attachment. If you ever intend to do mortise and tenon joints in the future I would suggest that you keep the Jet machine. The drill press mortising set-ups don't work as well as the dedicated machines and are way less stable. Not to mention a real PITA to get them to work accurately. I have yet to get the one I have on my desktop drill press to work with any reliable accuracy. Your mileage may vary.

Farley, I am now a little bit further away so it wouldn't quite be as convenient as it once was but you can always bring it over here and dump it. Anything to help you create a more comfortable working environment. An over crowded work shop is a hazard.
