You are correct in every respect. I had acted as judge, jury and executor even though I am not assigned any of those responsibilities.reible wrote:Thanks Dusty, I feel better now.
You are correct that if you login the activity data changes. But if you visit without going the login route then you appear as a guest. The activity data will not change since you are not come in as say reible but as a guest.
I personally have an auto login set up here, I come to the site and appear as reible. Not everyone wants to be set up that way so especially those that do not post or PM become guests and access the site as a guest and that is fine. A lot of the site can be accesses as a guest and "users" are free to use the site as guests without the login.
The last active data was the last login not the last visit via coming in as a guest. We could have people here who signed up in 2006 and visit every day without us ever knowing it, their last activity would still be 2006 but the number of times here could be say 2000 times.
So if we randomly pick a user with the membership date and last login as being the same that is all we can get from the information. It does not mean that they are not avid readers who might want at some point to start posting but might feel bad if they were stripped out of the data base because they haven't posted yet.
No requirements to login or post to be a member here.

Wow.
At the end of the day on March 6th, the monthly count on new members was 747. A total of 122 new members signed up on the 6th of March. Unbelievable!
At the beginning of the year (2013) there were 11579 members. There is now a grand total of 16738. This equates to an average daily gain of 79 new members with the daily average on the increase.
This tally is unofficial and does not represent anything more than my own observations. There has been no effort made to cross check or otherwise validate these numbers. Shopsmith has done confirmed these numbers. In fact, they are likely not even aware of this tally.

Good Morning Newbies
Wow, first time in several days (at any time of the day) that the list of members includes only two with member numbers greater than 16000.

And the forum continues to grow in leaps and bounds. There are 1390 members that were not at the beginning of this month. That averages over 100 new members a day. We are only 5 hours into this day and there are 21 new members already today.

If you believe those are "real" members, I've got some great land for you to buy in Florida... might drop in elavation without notice...

I don't know why you doubt that they are real. Would you please explain. What would anyone gain by signing up a bunch of fictitious members? I mean something on the order of 100 per day since back in the Nov/Dec time frame.Billdit wrote:If you believe those are "real" members, I've got some great land for you to buy in Florida... might drop in elavation without notice...

I sorta explained it once already on this thread... best idea is that bunches of teenagers in Malaysia get paid (very little) to join sites in mass, and links from these make money or something to that order...
Big thing is there is no way there are 100 new real members a day...
If the members that have no posts for, say, 3 months were purged with a email sent to them saying if they wanted to stay a member they would have to send an email back with some coded info, I'd bet 90% plus would disappear.
There is another theory that the Chinese are doing this with the idea of bogging down the web world wide some day.. . I get my info from someone who is involved in combating this sort of thing... he says as fast as they get a new blocking system going it is defeated...
just my 2 cents...

I'm not sure that that is a valid assumption!Billdit wrote:I sorta explained it once already on this thread... best idea is that bunches of teenagers in Malaysia get paid (very little) to join sites in mass, and links from these make money or something to that order...

On the flip side, would you believe that of the first 100 users to join the forum, only 10 have posted and of those 10 only three or four have posted more than once.
Would you believe that of the first 100 members to join the forum, only three are active participants today and one of those is the administrator while another is mbcabinetmaker (who has not posted since 10/20/2012).
The third is our very own and very active fjimp.

Hi,
Just checking the list of members, current number 15847 and of that number 2682 have posted.
When we turn that in to percentages we have almost 17% posters, can't say if that is good or bad.
Out of the 138096 posts the top 10 posters account for 52222 of them. That gives us having about 38% of the posts here done by just 10 posters.
Those users who have at least 25 posts number 426.
Stepping up to at least 50 posts the number is 271.
We have 170 members who have posted at least 100 times.
A respectable number have reached at least 500 post, 49.
When we get to 1000 posts we still have 25 posters in that category.
Well you get the idea.
Ed
