I used wooden wedges many years ago to separate rotating surfaces without too much damage. Any metal tool used can score, scratch and nick the aluminum sheave vane faces.
Thanks for the suggestion about the penetrating oil, I haven't heard of that brand before, I might have to try it out. Right now the sheaves are soaking in PB blaster for the time being, but I don't think it will help much. It seems like the sheave might be over extended on the shaft or maybe it got too much heat
The thought about using wooden wedges had crossed my mind, I like your thought process
