I might have to go check this out. I don't have a "wood lay" or a "wood planner." I'm not sure what they even are, but I MUST have every tool made! :D

Sad to say, but a beef cow probably is worth more than a used SS.
'55 Greenie #292284 (Mar-55), '89 SS 510 #020989, Mark VII #408551 (sold 10/14/12), SS Band Saw, (SS 500 #36063 (May-79) now gone to son-in-law as of 11-11), Magna bandsaw, Magna jointer 16185 (May-54), Magna belt sander SS28712 (Dec-82), Magna jigsaw SS4397 (Dec-78), SS biscuit joiner, Zyliss (knockoff) vise, 20+ hand planes, 60s Craftsman tablesaw, CarbaTec mini-lathe, and the usual pile of tools. Hermit of the Hills Woodworks, a hillbilly in the foothills of the Ozarks, scraping by.

A wood lay doesn't sound like something you want to get involved in, that may be a discussion better had under the "what do you wear in the workshop" thread lol.

Yeah the cow would be an awful deal, the going rate for a heifer is around a grand and they can easily be auctioned at any local stockyard on Friday night.

http://dallas.craigslist.org/ftw/tls/3643209816.html. 520 and bandsaw $2500

http://dallas.craigslist.org/ndf/tls/3564042666.html. 510 and bandsaw $2500

http://dallas.craigslist.org/dal/tls/3583091331.html. 500 with nothing, $1000

This is why I had to drive 3.5 hours away for my 510. The Dallas market is flooded with idiots. Almost makes me want to restore and sell. I'd still turn a huge profit and would seem like a steal in comparison.

I know it won't be worth it though as none of these sell and are relisted over and over.

Here's the ever elusive "Mark IV" http://houston.craigslist.org/tls/3675797073.html

Going by the picture, I guess the 4 features are Drum Sander, Disk Sander, Dust Magnet, and Garage Door Blocker!

If I was nearby, it would likely be mine (if the motor sounds good). You guys could barter over the rest..

The ad says a planer/shaper AND a jointer.

I seriously doubt he has a thickness planer, what do you think he is actually referring to?

And that's it. They'll just stay being listed for months and months. I've done some fishing for good deals and it doesn't seem to be worth the time when they are more than double what I"m looking to pay. You have to wait to they sit awhile and hope they will come down.

The good deals, just don't last. We finally had a listing that I would consider a good deal for a town south of the metro by 50 miles. Had the elusive (to me) belt sander, bandsaw, 510, jointer for half of what most people list the 510 for - it was listed for 1 day and gone by the next day.

The pictures and general laziness in listings get me. There is currently a listing with a picture cutting off both ends of the machine.

We've debated the issue before, but I could care less about the quality of the ad. As long as I can tell what it is, have a reasonable idea as to the condition before burning gas, and the price is reasonable I am OK. I'd rather have a reasonably priced turd of an ad than a professional seller asking $4500.
