Oh, I just realized something in the pic… the speed dial is suppose to be turned so the Shopsmith is perfectly level… <lol> I sure don't care. I am amazed thought the paper tag is still on the vertical lock down screw/knob!

Dusty- you've got a great eye. I guess there is a good reason I couldn't see the lower saw guard…

Craig's List, Ebay, and Freecycle are good places to 'shop'. I never intended to have a basement and garage full of Shopsmiths. But it's like that old expression: "Shopsmiths happen"…

Safety is something to never compromise. I met a retired gentleman back in Feb when I was down in Florida and visited Bill Mayo. The retired gentleman was missing two fingers off his right hand. One of my friends in high school was around 16 when his father was demonstrating the safe use of a circular saw and promptly cut off two fingers… No relation.

I've had some close calls and consider myself sort of a lottery winner as I should of been serious injured. I don't know everything and realize I never will, but the book you are getting is valuable. You should of been provided an owners manual along with another binder full of lessons on getting familiar with using the Shopsmith and the SPTs. If you don't have them, they're also available on Ebay or from Shopsmith.

This is my fifth, or maybe sixth, hobby I've acquired since about 1985. I picked up reading pretty steady, and have shelves full of books, on most every subject. Then, in 1985, I started collecting firearms, and with that, reloading ammunition. Then, when ammunition started getting expensive for my "large" calibers, I picked up bullet casting. And, if that wasn't enough, I took a course on "Beekeeping" with the County Extension Office, when were living in Greensboro, North Carolina, with an intent on starting a bee-farm when we moved here. That hasn't happened yet, but I'm working on my first bee-hive with a mentor in my neighborhood...she has 67-bee hives, in eight-counties...I guess eventually I'll get some time to turn some wood this year..

Something did not look right to me. I would believe the casters assemblies need to be swapped. I always liked the 3 legged lever to be on the front so it is easy to raise and lower the Shopsmith without going behind the machine. That is as new a machine as one shipped directly from Shopsmith. Sorry I am late responding, I do not get to the posts evey day.

In thinking about what you've said, maybe the original owner was left-handed, and possibly felt more comfortable having them that way...I don't know.

They aren't cumbersome for me at the moment...but I am distracted by the "SHOPSMITH-LOGO" not being level, and perfectly squared...as some one previously noted...
