LBJ gave invitation to come to Viet Nam in May 1968. Great Lakes was the gateway, NAS Memphis for aviation schools, NAS Lemoore, CA until Nov. 22, 1968. Flown to PI, caught USS Neches (AO45), highlined to USS Ranger (CVA 61) in Gulf of Tonkin Dec. 6, 1968. Disembarked with squadron (Attack Squadron 147) on June 2, 1969 and back to NAS Lemoore. Made lead aviation storekeeper, transitioned from A-7A/B to A-7E aircraft. Embarked on USS America (CVA 66) in January 1970 in Guantanamo Bay, Cuba. Set sail for second cruise to Viet Nam, stopping in St. Thomas, Rio de Janero, 8 days of ground swells of the Indian Ocean, to PI. Loaded nukes, aircraft and supplies and headed to the line. Back to Norfolk, VA, Dec. 14, 1970 and back to NAS Lemoore until April 1, 1971. Transferred to NAS Pensacola, FL. Married the girl of my dreams and Nixon offered me 90 days early out with a "reduction in force" in military personnel. Aviation Storekeeper E-5 before released from active duty in 1972. Started apprenticeship in Graphic Arts at the Naval Air Rework Facility on board NAS Pensacola, beginning my 31 years of civil service to my country.
