swampgator wrote:Not really! :D But in the winter months from about December 1 to February 1, I mow only about once a month. When the grass hibernates, the weeds grow taller and just as fast. Have MS walk tomorrow, rain all day Sunday, so will have to wait until Monday to mow again. Figs are producing, roses are blooming and the temps are getting close to summer. Today, bought Florida red potatoes, jalapenos, green beans and eggplant. So, it's time to get out and sharpen chisels, clean up the old SS, give it a good wax and find my fan on a stand so I can keep that hot muggy air moving. :D

Ed, I love the pic you posted. In a month, I'll be wishing I was up there.
I mowed twice this year also. Once in Feb/March and once again Monday.
Weeds were doing nicely.
Temp was pushing 90+ yesterday with 120% humidity, man it was nasty just like Summer.

I was at Webster flea market about 3 weeks ago and we got Sugar peas, radish, tomatoes, cabbage all Florida grown. Zellwood corn will soon be in. Now that is GOOD EATING! Almost candy sweet and tender. WE usually get the bi color because we think it is sweeter and more tender.

My peach tree is covered with blossoms and I must have about 20 fruit that have set from early blooms. Two of my 6 crape murtles are sprouting and the Red bud tree is out. The oaks have their leave and my Sycamore is coming out.

Today was overcast and windy. I have 20 foot limb break off and come down out the oak tree in the front of the house. Spent about an hour picking up wind fall branches out of the front yard.

After last year's heat, drought, and summer wind damage, I certainly don't mind seeing the rain! Maybe it'll be a little cooler this year.

Here in Ohio, we have all four seasons. Almost Winter, Winter, Still Winter, and Road Construction.

Credit for the wittiness all goes to Jeff Foxworthy, but is accurate nontheless.

In Tennessee, where I was born and raised, Spring, Summer, Fall, and Winter each lasted almost exactly three months. The way that God intended it. :)

Buceye interesting you grew up in Tennessee. Same with me in a little place about 30 miles northeast of Chattanooga. Stayed there until I went to live with dad in Cleveland, OH and then got an invitation to wear green uniforms with all expense paid trip to Viet Nam. So joined the Navy and saw the world and ended up in Pensacola. Met my wife here, worked here and have lived in the same house since 1973. But, with insurance companies and new rules coming out of the capital, think I'm going to look elsewhere. Love digging in the dirt here, the winters are mild. We get a few days in the upper 20's overnight, but it's like 3 or 4 days of that in a row, then a few weeks later, it repeats. Most of the winter had daytime highs of upper 50's and lower 60's. So it's not as warm as south Florida, but nicer in that we have better local wood choices.

OK, here in Phoenix, we have spring, HELL, HELL, again, and fall. (And, about 45 minutes of weak winter.)

We've already had days in the upper '90s, THIS year. (Monday, Tues and Wed, will be in the upper '70s though. Hell doesn't start until mid May, but sometimes lasts until Halloween.)

When I lived in Oahu, we had 4 seasons, too. Hawaii, Hawaii, Hawaii, and (you guessed it) Hawaii. One year we went water-skiing on New Year's day.

Our youngest daughter and her husband moved to TN about 23 years ago. They lived near Alcoa / Maryville for many years then moved to just outside Telico Plains (north east of Chattanooga). Beautiful country.
For years she said that she couldn't move back to Indiana because it got so cold... They now live in Montana. :D  :D :)

If memory serves correctly, Montana has longer and more intense cold winters. Go figure! Yes, my mother's family is from Tellico Plains area. Much too hard to farm there. LOL

Hey Steve... I agree with that 4 seasons thing her in phx... but I've heard it referred to as hot, holy $&%#, hot, and mild. Y'all can figure out which is which :D

But, in defense of the heat, and the reason that I live here... I grew up in Milwaukee right on the lake... no matter how hot it gets in Phoenix I don't have to shovel hot and the stuff in my nose never freezes.

Gotta love it...and dont touch anything shiny
