Utube Videos help please

Post by Gene Howe »

Can anyone give me some pointers for copying UTUBE vids to a cd so they can be played on a portable CD/DVR player?
Thanks, guys.

I went to CNet at url
http://download.cnet.com/Free-YouTube-D ... 19434.html
to download their free YouTube video downloader but it only is for a Windows machine.

There are programs out there that are not free, but CNet has been pretty reliable in the past.

Here is an Add-on for Firefox that will let you Download YouTube Videos as MP4 files, you could then burn them to a CD/DVD or copy them to a flash drive.
There are scripts available to make it work with o[size=84]ther browser[size=84]s as well. Free download[size=84], $2.00 [size=84]suggested donation.

Ron,
I tried using the downloader you cited and it appears to default to a PDF down load and, of course, Adobe won't open it.
Any suggestions?

Gene,
Try this one... http://files.freedownloadmanager.org/fdminst.exe You can set it to save the video in different formats (FLV, WMV, etc.)
If you want to read up on it first before downloading the program just log on to www.freedownloadmanager.org

I just tried it and it worked for me.

Installed in Firefox as an Add-on.
On the YouTube screen click on the new Download button (just to the right of the thumbs down button).
A drop down menu opens with the available formats, Mp4 different resolutions and FLV. Click on the one you want.
Firefox opens a window asking do you want to open it with an app. or save the file, choose save.

What browser are you using?

Ron,
Everything works as you describe until the download progress box opens. In the upper left corner, the Adobe PDF symbol appears.
Other purchased and freebie downloaders I've tried do the same thing.
Other than uninstalling Adobe, I don't know how to stop it from automatically intruding.

WOW!

Not only does it work, but is greased lightning!!!

A 15 sec mp4 in less than a second!!!! <<< That is a premature 'conclusion'.

This is a bit outside my area of expertise, but since it is consistent for the different downloaders my guess would be that the .MP4 file type has been associated with Adobe as the default application.
