Maxi clamp storage

Post by wgander »

Does anyone have the plans, a photo, or a link to the storage box for Maxi clamp?
Mine was damaged while moving and I don't remember where I got the plans from to rebuild it. It's got several spaces for the bolts and connectors and there were dowels to support the rods.

My Maxiclamp set is still in the original cardboard box. I bought it at the yard sale of a fellow local businessman friend that did hobby woodworking. He said that he just never got into the habit of using it. It must have been catching because I have only used it about twice in maybe 12 years. :D
I was looking at it during this shop move and thinking that I should make a storage tray for it using the cardboard box bottom panel for a pattern.
I am still kicking myself for failing to buy a map cabinet at a yard sale last summer. It would have been ideal. Looked like this:

Maxi clamp storage solved

Post by wgander »

I had to wait for a home delivery today so I went through my old Hands On magazines while I waited. The Maxi-Clamp Caddy is in the Jan/Feb 1985 issue.
While it appears to be a versatile tool, the fact is that I've hardly ever used it. It is out of sight when stored and I never think of it when I could use it. As I reorganize my shop, I plan on keeping it where I'll see it more often.

While I dreamed of a nice shop with tons of cabinets all of my life I now find that I must keep everything hung up or on shelves out in plain sight or I don't remember that I have it.

BTW, my recent Easter egg hunt went fairly well. I found most of the eggs I had just hidden. :)

No question that I need to make one of those. I have to wonder why they cut a rabbet and then added back a front face? Why not just plow a groove and leave the front face on there? Then you would just glue on the ends and add the little divider.
