Can someone explain this disclaimer?

It is used in the catalog to indicate to a purchaser that the item can not be used on the mentioned Shopsmith models.

Seems to be associated by Shopsmith with current wares/components that will/may fit with these older, no longer produced systems, to limit their liability for you doing so and having something go horribly/painfully wrong...

In the case of a shaft adapter, is this a fit issue?

You ask about the "shaft adapter" I assume you mean the power coupler which is a white nylon device that is used between the headstock and a special purpose tool such as the bandsaw or jointer. If so the coupler can be used on all versions of the Mk5, Mk7 and MkVII the Mk2 but not the early 10E and 10ER. I believe that the last two models used a different setup but I am not very familiar with the 10E or the 10ER.

OK, here's the true skinny.

ANYTHING that mounts on just the quill spindle will work on the ER. That includes all the sawblade arbors, drill chuck and even the mortising attachment. What mounts in the arbors won't always fit. YMMV.

Anything that uses the plastic adapter, requires some extra parts to use on the ER. They all (or mostly) SPTs. You need an adapter that will mount SPTs on the ER. (Currently the ER B SPT mount is one of the rarest ER part around. Expect to pay LARGE for them.)

You can adapt a Mk5/v headrest to the ER, and, in my opinion, it's stronger than the A or B ER SPT adapters. The MkV/5 headrest, has the vertical holes to mount the SPT tube supports.

I haven't figured out how to impliment the MkV/5 pivot tail stock to the ER.

Quoted for truth. SS doesn't want to cause any liability issues, on you even using these antique machines. But a LOT of the things that SS says DON'T work, in reality, DO work.

It would be much easier to 'explain', if we knew where you saw it and what it was referring to.

If it is the lift assist,the tubes are wrong on all three of those models.

There are no bench tubes on the 10E/ER, and a different scheme is used on the Mark 2. The Mark VII lower tubes raise and lower with the way tubes.

In addition the headstock weights are all different from Mark 5/V/7.

The 10ER way tubes are 1/2" closer together than the Mark V. I grind the 10ER tie bar to fit he Mark V headrest lock shaft. I was able to saw out the way tube holders on the Mark V carriage and welded them on the opposite side to fit the 10ER tube spacing. I made a 10ER tube and Mark V table jig to hold and align the parts when welding. It was way too much labor and effort to attempt again. It took a lot of aluminum welding. It took really good measurements and cutting to do this. Actually had to cut up a second Mark V carriage after understanding what needed to be done.

Good point.
I saw a shaper arbor and cutter set on Ebay. When I looked at the specifics on the SS site for the cutter p/n, I saw this disclaimer. I would like to use these parts on my old Mark 7, can I? Should I?
