Raising and lowering the table is easy manually because the weight is not very much even if you are elderly. Raising and lowering the motor is an issue; however, I do it manually as well by grasping the way tube tightly with my left hand just under the motor. I then loosen the lock and have the motor resting on my left fist. I then can raise or lower the motor safely. I have never lost control of the motor using this method.
Shopsmith Mark 4, Mark 7, Mark 5 shorty, planer, bandsaw, jointer, belt sander. Grizzly central dust collection 4" PVC trunk. Shopsmith Routing System stand-alone overhead pin router.

I prefer the palm under/centered between the way tubes elbow close to my side method.
The table carriage tends to bind due to the torque placed on the carriage by the weight of the table. Gently pulling up on the far edge helps reduce the binding.
I still am not used to the 'extra' weight of the larger 510 table over the Mark 5 table. Guess I am a slow adapter!
