New PowerPro
I just received and installed the new PowerPro in my 1973-4 vintage SS Mark V.
Oh my g**. I never new this unit could run so smooth and quiet. If I was any happier I'd probably be in heaven. When taking the unit apart to perform the upgrade I was amazed how rough and noisy the bearings all were compared to the new ones going into the unit. What an improvement!!! Couldn't be happier!!!

I really have to applaud SS for the great templates they send with this DIY kit. I have never had so many diy drilled holes line up so perfectly, no pushing, twisting or springing to get things lined up. A plus

Congratulations to you and welcome to the forum.
You should upgrade your Profile so we know where you are from.
I wish I could do the same upgrade soon, but it is not to be yet.
It is offered for us in Mississauga near Toronto but I am far (9hours) from them for service after I do it myself, so I tend to think that I will take the route of an already installed one. Only 400$ difference and I would have my original headstock to fall to if it does not go well.
Otherwise, you give me confidence in the way that you are talking about the templates and the installation going well.
We will see.

It was a lot easier than I expected, however did take a fair amount of time as I am one those people who read what to do, check the step about to do, then read it again before doing. I also think I'm one of those people who get a lot of satisfaction from doing something myself.

My wife and I visited Quebec City a number of years ago, her grandparents were originally from Frampton. I grew up here in Vermont and my dad owned a small sawmill so I was always used to having want ever lumber I needed when I needed it. He is long since passed and my supply is limited to a small amount of cherry and pine. It sure is different when I have to go buy it now.
Hope to retire in the next couple years and do more woodworking.
