Idler shaft sheave speed loop/bearing/button

I have not had good success just replacing the bearing in the control sheave. Once removed, it appears the holding power of the control sheave tube is reduced. Loctite helps but I still had a few failures. I have been machining the bearing depth around .08" to .09" deeper so there is material to stake the bearing. Shopsmith did use a bunt chisel like tool at 4 places around the bearing for staking for the extra hold. This extension pass the end of the bearing for staking was present in some of the earlier control sheaves.bnssweeney@msn.com wrote:New guy here. Got a 55 vintage greenie, (first SS) and am going thru it headstock first. I have the rebuild kit and everything is pretty straightforward except for the speed loop/bearing/button that goes in the end of the control sheave shaft, what is the process for removing and replacing that component. Looks like a tap it out and press the new part in. Guidance pls. Thx Steve
My Ebay friend has the control sheave bearing, button and retaining loop available on Ebay which I use. Excellant seller to do business with.
