Ok, I didn't see the post where I need to take out the speed control dial and the guts. I will do that now. By the way I didn't understand where I should oil the 10-15 drops at. But, I will take the speed control dial off again. By the way, I can tell you that all the teeth in the speed control dial and rounded off, but all teeth behind the dial ar ok. ok, I will take them out.

Definitely Do Not Run Or Move Anything Until The Sheaves Are Floating Like They Are Supposed To. You Will Damage Other Things!

Maybe it will help if I show you some pictures of 'normal'

First picture is of the motor sheave. There is an oil hole under the spring. This picture shows how far you should be able to open the sheaves by hand. It will have pressure, but shouldn't bind. Do not let it snap back!

Second picture is the idler and control sheave. The control sheave should slide like butter. The only thing that keeps it from sliding off is the button bearing and clip. The oiling hole is near my thumb.

This is a picture of the porkchop, aka quadrant. The one on the left is an old damaged one. Notice the teeth are chewed up? This is what can happen if the speed control is turned with the motor off or if the sheaves are stuck. Also, the "ears" get bent and open up. Bill Mayo replaces the roll pin holding the 2 pieces together with a bolt. When the ears open, the worm gear sits off-center and damages the porkchop.

This is my old bearing that is part of the control sheave. It should not come out and replacing it has mixed results. I did buy one with the clip from feebay and had good luck. The bearing was grinding and noisy. The bearing was staked in place to help hold it.

Thanks for those images. I did oil both oiling holes, but I didn't know if there was a better way ( wasn't sure if it would get to all places in need of oil. I definitely need to fix this though. It just doesn't run consistently and I will not start it again until this is complete. Is there anything that I should be wary of when taking the control gears off? As I beleive I already said the screw that attaches the black curved tab was stripped so I put a washer and a nut behind it so hopefully that will help keep it in place. So, I just take off the three screws and be careful not to lose the spring behind the control?

I took the speed control assembly out and the sheeve just fell as I assume is normal. Here is a picture of the quadrant. The gear is less damaged than the picture I saw, but there is some damage. Also what can I clean the parts with. I have been using gasoline.
