A (very) simple blade height adjustment ruler

Post by bobgroh »

I've actually been doing some woodworking and, in the process, got a bit frustrated with my normal way of setting the saw blade height - i.e. holding a ruler in one, loosening up the table height adjustment lock with a 2nd hand (while holding the height adjuster wheel) and then setting and locking the height. So I grabbed a chunk of scrap 1/2" plywood and drew some markings on it with a pencil.

Worked great - stands up by itself and as adequate accuracy for this job.

But, of course, I needed to make it a little better. So I took a scrap of 2x material, squared it up on the saw and glued on a cut-off piece of a wood ruler.

Still simple, stands by itself and gets the job done. I know - no big deal. But I'm pleased!

Much simpler(cheaper) than a combination square! Fine tunable too(until ya glued it;)). Easier on saw blade teeth.

Add several cuts of different heights to the middle slightly wider kerf than the blade. Then you could set it over the blade and lower the table until the gauge moved - back down till block stops moving.

I like this'un also!:)

One nice thing about these simple little jigs is that they are...well, simple! You can whopp up one in short order and try it out. And then the ideas flow! Cost is low, enjoyment high and quick to do (almost instant gratification)! Fancier would be nice and I'll probably try one someday.
