This is intended to help you protect your email list.

I have been hacked and it seems to have effected my entire email address list.

I have changed all my passwords as a result and I am now up and running. I don't know how this will effect our ability to communicate. Hopefully not at all.

My thanks goes out to all who have alerted me of this incident. I do hope that this does not effect you in any way.

Prior to reading this post I saw your name in my spam folder and deleted the message without opening it. My gmail acct gives a little summary of email contents which can be read prior to opening the email. I couldn't see how the subject matter pertained to anything I would receive from you.

That has happened to me and my wife, she is not on the internet very much, and still got hit.

Do not click on any link (other than to Shopsmith) that you see in any email from me. I have not posted any non-woodworking related links to anyone. Clicking on links you may see subjects you to the same hacker that has effected my machine.

I am not yet recovered completely.

If I try to connect to MSN, I get reinfected.

Something similar happened to me about a year ago. I made the idiotic move of accessing email from a computer at a retail store in order to print out a coupon that they had emailed me. 24 hours later my email was sending spam to every person on my email list. I assume what happened was the machine in the store which was used by employees had been infected and harvested my email password when i typed it in. By changing my password at home I was able to stop the spam but only because my own machine was not hacked.

Dusty I was in the process of composing an E-mail to tell you that you have been hacked. I received two emails from you that I know you didn't send.

It seems they take you contacts or address book and send something to everyone on the list.

My Son in Law does mail outs from his business and this happened to him. He actually lost customers that got mad when they received spam under his name that he didn't send.

He contacted his mail provider and they did something that solved his problem. I think they closed his account and opened a new one with the same user name but different password.

Thanks Ed. I've changed all my passwords but that doesn't help those on my email list that. If anyone receives one of these emails and clicks on the link, they'll have the same problem.

Since this happened, I have not been able to get back into Outlook. It seems that my Outlook fines may be damaged.

If ya recall, similar thing happened to me last month. As I understand it, my yahoo account was hacked, not my computer itself. Cretin was in Thailand!

It seems as though I am back up and running. No real harm done except that I have spent nearly three cool early morning hours without making saw dust. It won't be long now and the shop will be getting hot.

I had to restore the operating system (thankfully I had a good restore point) and then I had to load files and folders from the backup.

ALERT: If you do not maintain a reliable backup disk, think seriously about doing so NOW. This would have been a real disaster for me without a backup disk (120GB of data).

Hi Gang
You have to really check the return addresses on all E-Mails. I have gotten several that looked to come from either my son or my daughter or some other person that I know personally. A careful look will disclose that the return address is different from the one that you will have listed for the person. If it is, then DO NOT open that piece of mail. You may not have been the one hacked but the one in the return address is the one hacked and you are receiving the junk. As soon as you open the mail then your address book is hacked and then people in your circle are the ones targeted. Just look at the return address.
