Hopefully SS doesn't have the mentality that allowing the heads up posts or even for sale posts are somehow going to affect their sales. i work for one of the largest companies in the free world and had an inside sales / technical support role prior to engineering and design. while i dont consider this to make me a business administration expert, i do understand that we sell many of our base products at a somewhat low profit margin because we realize that the real money is in accessories, onsite support and maintanence, spares, and upgrades. On a personal level, I have been interested in SS for 15 years but couldnt even consider spending the cash for a new tool if i wasnt positive that i was going to like it. since they closed the houston store, it was never even a serious consideration. i have been able to purchase three used tools off of CL in the last two months and i can tell you that this did not cost SS a dime in new sales because I wouldnt have made the leap otherwise. i can say that hey have and will get orders from me for tool upgrades and spares along with literature. I have already picked up a set of DVDs and an oscillating drum sander. i now have no doubt that a mark 7 will be in my future once i am making some extra cash on product.
i was recently really into aquariums and a few of the aquaria sites have good ideas. everyone is allowed a certain number of for sale posts a year. after that, they must purchase a bronze, silver, or gold membership that allows them to post more while also funding the site. something like that might be a great idea for our sponsors here.
What happened to prohibition against showing items for sale?

the way I look at it, how many of you bought a used SS and then ended up spending some money with ShopSmith to buy supplies or upgrades or whatever. I would think a fair chunk of their revenue comes from users who did not buy from Ss originally.
IOW, it's a win win.
