Sharing Sketchup Files

Is it possible (I know it is, I just don't know how) to transmit fully functional Sketchup files via email.

The files that I have attempted to share are all received as read-only files. These files can be dimensioned, moved, rotated, tilted, etc but the changes made can not be saved.

Have the go..
File --> Save As
or
File--> Save a Copy As

The read-only may have more to do with the recipient's computer settings than anything on your end. If you open an attachment it exists in a temp folder, where as saving to a real folder and then opening is treated differently.

Thanks for the suggestion but they still come up "Read Only".

Not sure about Sketchup but when there is a full and free version software limited functions is common with the free version.
There are a lot of Sketchup users here I'm sure someone will have a definitive answer soon.

I have recently emailed Sketchup files to a member of this forum and he reports that he has been able to work with those files with no apparent limitations. He has made and saved changes.

Furthermore, I have Shared files using that function within Sketchup. Those files are available in the 3D Warehouse. I am thinking that this would be a good way for anyone to share their Sketchup files with the Shopsmith community.

What would be really neat would be for this to be incorporated into the Forum. This along with an indexed file of Photo Images that have been posted here. The information that is available here on the forum is amazing but very hard to retrieve if you don't know EXACTLY where it is located.

You can upload ZIP files, which can contain any file type and any quantity.

Many e-mail programs (especially web mail like outlook/live/hotmail/MSN, yahoo, g-mail etc.) treat downloaded attachments the same as files downloaded from the web and marks them as read only and "blocks" them in the file system. Check the file properties after downloading the attachment. make sure it is "Un-Blocked"

Right click the file and select properties if a button with a caption of "unblock" is present, (Usually in the bottom right of the file properties) click that but only if you trust the sender and it has been scanned for viruses.

This happens to me often as I share a lot of files.
