I use an Epson projector with my computer, and a Hauppauge TV card in the computer, so I can watch sports, movies, TV, etc, and browse the interwebs sitting in my recliner. Height of laziness I know but great entertainment. :)

Anyway, I started with a pull down roll up screen about 5 ft wide and then switched to just projecting on an off white wall to get a bigger image. Awhile ago I ran across a favourable review of HD's Behr latex in "silver screen" colour (looks light grey-blue) and liked it so much we painted the whole wall with it. We were quite pleased with the projected image until I found this article:

I found the paint he reviews, the Sherwin-Williams ProClassic Smooth Enamel Satin Extra White, # B20 W 51.( I found it as WQ1151 here in Canada) trim and door paint, to give a significantly better picture! My screen is about 8 ft wide by 6 ft high and I sit about 8 to 10 ft from it. I actually painted two coats from floor to ceiling. If you are using a smooth wall as your screen, try the Sherwin Williams.......I think you will like it.:cool:

WOW is a gross under statement.

What sort of computer power does this demand?

Does the Hauppauge TV card replace the video card?

PS: WOW again. Which Epson projector are you using?

Computer used to be a core 2 duo with 4 gigs of ram, worked fine with the projector but present computer bought last year is an Acer I7 at 3.4GHz with 8 gig of ram, 64bit, running Win7. You don't need all that power to use a projector though.
I have an ATI Radeon HD6670 video card in it which is nice for flight or racing games (which I rarely get around to playing). The tv card sends the picture to the video card, I think. The Epson EX5210 projector is connected to the video card via an HDMI cable. I also have a lcd screen connected, but only use it occasionally. For sound there are a pair of Sony tower type speakers (an older model Sony SA VA15 home theatre system). This is what a racing game looks like to the driver......sorry, that is my head in the foreground:

I had a setup like that in the basement when we lived in Virginia/DC. I mounted the projector to the ceiling had the cable box, a did player, and computer going to it. It was our favorite place to watch movies. I ended up selling the projector when we moved back to Louisiana, but I'd love to have that kind of setup again. Will definitely go with an HD projector next time.

Very nice Peter. Is it good for watching movies vs a standard flat panel TV? (other than the huge size of course, which no tv can match)
