Mounted Planer Feed Motor Brush Cap

I have a mounted planer and am looking for a replacement brush cap for the feed motor. I have one brush cap and am currently using electrical tape to hold the other brush in place.

I figure this is 50 cent piece but am having trouble finding the specs on it. It appears to be 1/2" diameter but I don't know the thread pitch.

I've found various brush caps for sale online, but they typically say they are for this or that tool and don't give any specs.

Anybody know where/how I can get one?

I was never able to find a cap that would fit the Shopsmith brush holder. I replaced both Shopsmith brush holders and brushes with a set from another DC motor that I had saved the parts. The cap part of these replacement holders was larger in size and extended around 1/4" beyond the motor housing which is not a problem. I will search to see if I can find the remaining brush holder and brush as I never throw anything away, I only misplace them. There is a tiny set screw that holds the brush holder. The brush holder is a standard OD size and length that other DC motors use from what I remembered. You may be able to remove the brush holder and check with a motor repair shop to see what they may have available. I remember most brush holders on Ebay did not list the OD and length when I was searching. Let us know on the Forum the OD and length of the brush holder if you remove it as someone may have a spare. I believe the brush is 1/4" on one side but that was years ago.

I took out the brush holder and its OD is 5/8" and length is 7/8. The brush is 1/4 x 5/16. Also, I do need a new brush holder as the current one is too damaged for just a new brush cap.

Looking online, the closest match I've found so far is a Eurton 4050.

I would believe that will work. It looks identical to what I used. The extended part for the cap is OK to use on this motor. If the brush holder copper part is too long, you can cut some off to fit. Be sure to get new brushes to install. I replaced both holders just to keep the outside of the motor looking the same for the brush caps. You only need to replace the one holder if you are keeping the planer. I clean up the motor armature where the brushes ride at this time.

Previously, I adapted another 1/5 HP DC motor to fit this planer by making an adaptor plate to mate the motor to the planer. Contact me if interested as the Shopsmith planer motor is quite expensive.
