If I suddenly go "incommunicado", it shall be due to my loss of computer capability. I am loosing one right after the other. Three in the last week have developed serious problems of one kind or another.

If that should happen, I'll check in now and then when I have access to one of the kids computers.

I am having trouble with my laptop. SweetPacks has taken over and I have tried all kinds of stuff to get it off. I thank I really made it mad, I went in and deleated a lot of stuff I did not know what it was and had not downloaded it and now I really have popups. In my control panel it had downloaded 15 different things all in one day, so I deleated all of them now it is worse.

Let me know what is happening, I've got "some" experience with computers. (More than you have with ERs, it would seem.)

Sounds like you need to sign up with the Geek Squad. For $9 a month you get unlimited telephone/vpn support after an initial investment of $99. If they can't fix it remotely, you take it in to the nearest Best Buy.

And pay someone to do what I can eventually do? Never Happen!

Besides, I have my own Geek Squad. I have three grand kids and a grandson-in-law that together can do it all - "when you can get time with them". Steaks or ribs on the grill usually brings that about

OK guys, anyone that can rebuild a Shopsmith, is smart enough to rebuild a computer.

You just have to know what to do.

Progress is slow but there is progress. I have two computers back up and working. One is a small Dell desktop that is slated to be the computer in the RV. I plan to shock mount it and install it into a seldom used cabinet space under the table.

The other is suppose to be in the shop, functioning as my Sketchup and Autocad computer. It also loads the shop budget and equipment inventory.

The third is the one that I really need to recover. It is the old gaming computer. I've made some progress but very little. This one has Windows 7 and all of my latest applications programs. It boots but then hangs without starting Windows. I suspect bad memory BUT there are no beep tones and no error messages.

No sawdust. That is what I am really missing. I need a sawdust fix but the doctor is holding firm. NO SHOP ACTIVITY.

I have, for the time being, set my goto computer aside. I have to read more about how to attack this one. It seems that it hangs toward the end of the POST and before it starts loading the OS.

No error messages and no beep tones. NO CLUES.
