Today in the shop (pens)

This could well be my last nice day of wood working this year. It was about as good as it gets in the driveway this time of year and I just had to take advantage of it. Rain and colder next week and then I'm going off on a little vacation and before I know it the cold November winds will limit what I can do in my very limited indoor space.

So here is my latest 6 pens.

They all have homes already so as normal with me it was a case of being about time I got them done. I believe I still need to make 8 or 9 more by Christmas season.

Nice looking pens Ed. A couple of questions: What style of pen are they? What kinds of wood did you use? What kind of finish?

The pen kits are from craft supplies (http://www.woodturnerscatalog.com) and are called apprentice roadster. The three light colored pens are birdseye maple with chrome and a liberon wax finish after going through to 12000 grit sanding (typical for me).

The two darker pens are walnut, the finish is several coats of antique oil. The kit color is gun metal.

The more gray wood is kairi (just 45000 years old) and it too has the gun metal parts and wax finish.
