Two months in to my new addiction

OK guys i hope you don"t mind me sharing but I had to tell someone that could appreciate my situation. To start off I have always wanted a shopsmith every time I saw one growing up I always thought that would be the way to get started in woodworking> I am a novice to say the least that said I have been building things all my life. I have always been the son, nephew, cousin that if you needed something made or fixed I got the call, Im sure many of you are the same way. a couple months ago I finally decided I was gonna do it so I started watching craigslist and I found a 500 with a bandsaw in my town so bought it and its in good shape but it was missing a lot of parts. while looking for parts I found an almost unused model 505 that had everything ( I thought) I was looking for and I picked it up for a song. After doing my research I realized I wanted at least the 510 table system so a couple weeks ago I found a 510 that the guy bought several years ago used it a couple times and stored it under a tarp. while i am there he said that he had something that went with it and pointed to a box. i was happy to find out it was a DC3300 still in the box never assembled. After some back and forth we settled on a price of 470.00 for all of it. The reason I am saying all this is to ask if you guys have been in this situation where its almost cheaper to buy another system than buying parts. Oh and when I got the last one home a made it into a shorty and love it. Its very handy to have the full size one to work on and the shorty for sanding and drilling. When 'cheap' enough, added units for either use or parts makes sense.

Personally I would use the 'parts' for an added machine unless there was too much missing.

You have redefined the definition of shorty. Yours is short two ways.

I like how you store a shopsmith under your workbench. I would like to build such a bench, what are the dimensions of bench?

it is 36" by 80" on the bench reason being is I was at lowes one night and found a solid core door with a rough spot in it on clearance for 7.00 so I used it for a workbench top with 1/4 plywood overlay that I can replace when damaged. The bench hight is about 44 its kinda high for most people but i am 6'5 and I dont like to sit when im working plus it keeps the girlfriend from being able to reach my tools when i am at work.
