wifi smart phone problem need fast help

Post by reible »

OK I do not nor have I ever owned a cell phone or tablet or any of those other sorts of devices. My son loaned me a htc g2 t-mobile without a sim card. So it will not call or do data but it will connect via wifi.

I picked it up because my lap top wifi died a while back and I will be out of town and wanted to keep up with my email. My son however is off on a business trip and we are about to be off as well. So I'm feeling a bit helpless.

I was able to figure out how to connect to my wifi and get the security working. I can now connect with the phones app to my at&t email and get the emails to read. What happens when I try using the sending has got me confused. I have the setup for the outgoing SMTP set and the phone seems to like it until I try sending a message. It starts but then says "connection error". So what is up with that?

I've managed to work around this by using yahoo mail but that isn't as nice and is much slower then I'm use to. But it does work.

Settings I'm trying to use are

outbound.att.net
port 465
my user name
normal password
SSL security

Anyone got anything I should know about this?

I don't have AT&T; but some research shows that it should be username@att.net as the user name.

Hope that helps.

In my case it is username@sbcglobal.net. This is the same name I use on my computer and the inbox portion on the phone and that works... I'm thinking I need a sonic screw driver to fix this....

Thanks for the idea.

You should see my scarf! If memory serves it is about 17' long, a special gift from my wife many years back. Of course you have to be an older fan to appreciate that.

I would have thought the send account would be

SMTP.att.net

Have you tried that and it failed?

I use an iPhone so am not familiar with the Operating System you are using. However, when I have had a like problem I make sure that the username and the password are correct and that it is using the correct SMTP (Outgoing Mail Server). If those are correct and it still doesn't work then you are beyond my very limited expertise.

When I add an aol account on my iPhone it sets the server as :

- 1985 Mark V 510 with reversible motor, bandsaw, jointer, and double-tilt.

I offer quality motor reversal, rebuilding, and rewiring. Contact me at HarbourTools@live.com
