A little help here, checking one of my videos

Post by reible »

Hi,

I'm a little under the weather these past few days, about all I feel like doing is taking a nap or sitting at the computer. While I'm recovering I decided to post some videos of my recent visit to the UP of MI.

For those interested the whole collection is here:

http://www.youtube.com/user/whitewolfpaws

The video that seems to look pretty bad (lot of digital artifacts) is this one:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-ZPFeEa-_Ys

I'm not sure if it my slower connection or if it is the video.... so if a few of you could take a look and let me know I'll know weather to leave it or yank it.

I still have some more to post but I've worn myself out for now.

Bought, restored and sold a 520 before I knew what I had (and should have kept) - Now I found religion and I'm working on restoring a 500 and a 10E.

Yes that is snow! We arrived Thursday evening, I went out on Friday afternoon to get some pictures and by evening that day it was snowing. We then got from 2" to 4" each night until the next Friday. Then it started again on Sat. morning........ of course we got melt off each day and some rain mixed in so the most we had at any one time was about 6".

Glad you enjoyed the bird house video.

Thanks for the update on video quality!

The videos all look great on my 1st generation iPad as well. Very nice!

So what makes the Black River water so black?

Well this is what the people in the know say:

Thanks for testing the video!

The peope in the know say that the dark color in the Black River is from the tannins leaching out of the bark of Hemlock trees.

Here in Central Ohio, we're on the extreme fringe of the growing range for Canadian Hemlocks. But they are gorgeous trees, and I planted four little ones just after we built the house in 1991. Three of those are still healthy, and one of them is now about 40 ft. tall.

One winter a few years later, the LOML and I discovered an Ohio B&B with a gorgeous hemlock woods, deep in a sheltered river ravine. I was so impressed that the very next spring, I bought a bunch more small hemlocks and planted them all along our little stream. Alas, the deer had multiplied greatly in the interim, and the trees were a bit farther from our house. What the does and fawns didn't eat over the next few years, the bucks shredded whilst rubbing the down off of their antlers.

You know, I actually like deer. I also like venison. But my daughters have successfully dissuaded me from converting the first into the second, and now nature is way out of balance.

My Windows 8 machine saw all videos, except "Black River 3 of 4". Only that one was slow to load completely.

I had no problems with any of them.

Apparently I am not the only one who takes pix(still and moving) of 'running' water. Tennessee 'cricks' mostly!

My wife and I took the Lake Superior Circle Tour in September. The UP gets loads and loads of lake effect snow. See pic from just below Whitefish Point, MI.

Here's a link to our album, if anyone is interested. We missed the color peak but as far as I can tell this was a miserable year for fall colors in the upper mid west.

Thanks for the group test. Seems my connection was very slow yesterday, better today???

BTW my mouse trap bandsaw video went by by all on its own. Well it didn't really go anywhere it just became private????? I found that when I notice my view count was a lot lower then before. Odd stuff.

Here are a few stills from the trip.
