Vintage bicycle repair stand?! Those parts look awfully familiar.

The next time you think your idea is stupid, remember someone in a meeting once said, "let's make a movie about tornadoes full of sharks!"

If that thing sells for $400, I'm finding a couple of those bike clamps and making a fortune!

As a former bicycle mechanic, I can say that is very effective.
The poster does advise bolting to the floor or a heavy base. It is a cantilevered design so you do need sufficient mass to keep it from tipping. Overall a good use of spare parts that will last forever.
Based on what I just saw for prices on bicycle repair stands, $400 is not out of line. FYI, the clamps alone typically cost more than $100 retail.
Cyclists are just as bad as woodworkers and golfers regarding paying just about any price for a gadget that does what they want or think they need.

I think I saw one of those in a 1942 bicycle magazine. I guess it was one of the original inspirations for ShopSmith. They even called their new machine a 10ER to honour the old 10BR inspiration. Damn nice of the SS folks, don't you think?
