10E clone?

Post by enyoc »

JC
Hampden Twp, PA

Bought, restored and sold a 520 before I knew what I had (and should have kept) - Now I found religion and I'm working on restoring a 500 and a 10E.

Possibly, but not in as good of condition as the one you found!

I've never seen one like that. It always amazes me that such clones occurred and weren't challenged as a patent violation. Most of the Mark V clones I've seen are a blatant copy of the SS design.
'78 Mark V 500 #27995 (my Dad bought new)
'82 Mark V 500 #96309
Two '47 10E's (serial#4314+6149) - one a dedicated drill press and the other a lathe
Two 10E/ER in parts slowly being restored…#26822 and #????? (SS plate missing)
SPT's: Bandsaw, Belt Sander, Strip Sander, Jointer, Jigsaw, Biscuit Joiner

I would hazard a guess that the 10E was a 'clone' of those items posted above.

In spite of all the 'Hans' propaganda, there were predecessors. The 10 E/ER was the most successful of them.

The Mark 5/V clones were long after patents had run out(biscuit jointer excepted:D).

There is nothing new or even recent about multi-purpose tools...
I used to have a 1905 foot powered lathe that was made as both a metal and a wood lathe. I still have an old unit (as barnyard art) that was a table saw, large jointer/planer, heavy grinder and bandsaw combined. Note that it was neither tilt blade or tilt arbor... I guess you would call it a tilt-board... :D When I bought it they had retired it from a KY sawmill where it was being used to saw tomato / tobacco stakes. The upper part of the bandsaw was gone.
