I spend a lot of time looking for tools and marking devices. I also spend a lot of time thinking about why "it didn't work or it didn't fit". I spend very little time finishing (I hate finishing tasks). None of my jigs are finished.

I think if it were my chart I would have added "searching for pencil", that would be at least 12%.

Not me. I'm prone to using a knife, instead of a pencil.

But, I DO spend an inordinate amount of time looking for stuff.

So now I'm trying to picture you using a knife to write down your hardware store shopping list............... Nope can't do it.

Now I'm trying to see the knife and you taking dimensions and writing them on a piece of paper............ Nope that is not working either.

Now I'm thinking of the knife falling off and landing on your foot..... OK maybe I can see that.

OK now I've moved on to sharpening the in the pencil sharpener...... but when we get to the knife I hear this terrible sound..... boy that didn't turn out so well.

I reserve using my marking knifes so I pretty much know where they are, and I only have a couple of them so I'd run out way before I got much done.

If a tool does not have a storage place, make one. That way it always get put back in the same spot. Some things I have extra of I put in my lawnmower shed so, they don't take up room in the shop... This is what I do with pencils, tape measures, clamps. Does it always work out as planned???

For me and my shop it seems I spend an inordinate amount of time fighting entropy. From tool maintaince to putting tools away to sweeping up messes its a never ending battle with the evils of entropy.

If that were my chart I would say the highest percentage of time was cleaning and adjusting. The second highest would be designing my shop to better suit me. The third would be doing repair work, the fourth would designing a new project and the lowest would be actual building the new project.

I have trained myself to wear an apron while in the shop so my pencil, tiny try square, tape measure, rule and marking tools are always with me. Along with a small piece of sand paper, something sharp like a nail or awl and of course the SS toolbox. If the project has special hardware I have a pocket to keep them in.

I learned this building house with the son in law. If we didn't wear tool belts we usually managed to do nothing the whole day but look for the things we needed to do the task. Once we both started wearing tool belts our productivity soared to new heights.

Just found a space above your door where you can put a shelf. I use above the door metal shelf supports to hold my above the door shelf.
