Current email offers Bandsaw eccentric tubes
Being a simple person I find I get confused when I see things like the following:

Can some one explain how a Mark 7 uses these? Maybe it just me but I thought that by definition a Mark 7 would have the double tilt base which does not allow SPT to be mounted when tilted up (OK you could do it but please don't).
Oh well they don't pay me to watch for this stuff so I don't know why I do it.

Ahhhh the joys of having copy writers that have just a little
(but insufficient) amount of knowledge of what they write about.
I do agree this is a case in point!;)
Bet they did not run this by Jim McCann(sp?).

I don't believe this has anything to do with a "lack of knowledge" on the part of the writer. It would be very simple to make this sort of mistake.
Many of the specials are simply "cut and paste" from the catalog. This is likely a cut and paste with a slight modification to feature the Mark 7 (realizing that Shopsmith is not pushing the Mark V at all).

Bandsaw Eccentric Tubes
What was the original purpose of the eccentrics? I believe they exist primarily to facilitate alignment of the hubs when connecting SPT.
Furthermore, with the original eccentrics, I don't believe the bandsaw was moved far enough away to allow the tilt. I may be wrong on that as I have not attempted to tilt with a bandsaw mounted in years. I have my bandsaw on a power station.
This is what happens when you try to improve upon a tried and proven design.
Can you even purchase the original eccentrics (502080)?

With the aluminum band saw table and regular eccentrics, you cannot take the Mark V vertical with the table in its usual, flat position. I have found that if you tilt the band saw table to 45 degrees, this raises the point at which the tie bar would intersect the plane of the table and it will just barely squeeze by.dusty wrote:What was the original purpose of the eccentrics? Just barely is all that is needed. Thanks for correcting me on that point.algale wrote:With the aluminum band saw table and regular eccentrics, you cannot take the Mark V vertical with the table in its usual, flat position. I don't think that I ever gave thought to tilting the table to gain clearance.

They don't advertise that "feature" because I suspect if they did they wouldn't sell too many of the special band saw eccentrics. To be fair, maybe they aren't even aware of this fact themselves.dusty wrote:Just barely is all that is needed. Thanks for correcting me on that point.

To mindlessly alter copy without considering applicability if not due to a lack of knowledge, is due to a surplus of stupidity, laziness, don't care or something similar. Easy mistake? Of course. Mistakes are caused by that stuff just mentioned.
The original tubes were straight, not like the current slightly off set tubes that come with all SPTs.
When the CI table was replaced with the larger aluminum one, the interference 'issue' was realized at a 'demo'.
These eccentric tubes are too flexible and make the BS act like it is on a spring board. Replacing the spacer bars with 5/8" bar stock minimizes that!
I believe the off set tubes were created to allow easier alignment of the SPTs. Makes too much sense to likely be otherwise.
Tilt 45 then raise? Hmmmmm. Interesting!!!!!!!!!!!
Now back to the M7 inappropriateness . . . . . . . .

Thanks for catching this. Looks like I had gone overboard on the copy/paste when I was updating pages for the Mark 7. It is corrected now.reible wrote:Being a simple person I find I get confused when I see things like the following:
