2013 Christmas projects

I posted a pic of these bowls while they were being made a few months ago. This is a set of four for a friend to give his wife as a Christmas present.

Nice Bill. Did you glue up slats of different wood to get that effect.
What size are the bowls?

This 32" lazy susan was done earlier in the year, but it will serve a Christmas function as the appetizer holder for our annual Christmas dinner.
Food yet to come.

The highlight ring is made of two strips of yellow and purple heart glued face to face. The strips were then cut at 15 deg angles using a sled and then glued together and alternating every other piece. After two half circles were glued up, the two halves were trued to each other and then glued into a circle. The top of the bowl was then parted off and the lower and upper parts of the bowl were flattened using a drum sander and reassembled with the glued up ring between the two parts of the bowl and the turning was completed. In order for the staggered effect to line up properly it is necessary for the purple heart and the yelllow heart to be EXACTLY the same thickness.

The friend for whom I labored on her quilt rack is using it in her Christmas setting.

That's a nice bit of work! Are the curved pieces a single piece or are they bent laminations?

Running a bit late on Christmas projects, finished this doll armoire for my granddaughter yesterday.

I based it loosely on this plan. Star Doll Closet for American Girl or 18" Doll
The wood is pine.

Another one bites the dust. Just finished this Point presser/clapper for my daughter. She sews most of her own clothes. This tool is used for pressing seams in dressmaking/tailoring.
