I have struggled for years installing the black and orange tires on the Shopsmith bandsaw wheels. I recently started using the Blue Max bandsaw tires from Ebay seller bandsaw-tire-warehouse that came with an installation tool. This made it easier to install the tires while the wheels were still on the bandsaw. Last week while Brett was visiting, we had removed the bandsaw wheels to grease the upper wheel bearings and to clean up both wheels and the inside of the bandsaw casing. It occurred to me that maybe there was a better way to remove and install the tires on the bandsaw wheels. I put each wheel in my large metal vise for which I had made aluminum jaw liners for clamping aluminum parts to prevent damage. I found I could install the Blue Max bandsaw tire in less than 30 seconds with the wheel clamped in the vise and wooden clamp holding the tire without having to reclamp the wheel.

After installing the Blue Max tire, I slowly rolled the installation tool around the wheel placing the blue max tire in the middle of the wheel rim. I had to reclamp the wheel several times while doing this.

I was also able to quickly remove the old black tire after loosen the tire enough to get the roller part of the installation tool under the tire. I was able roll the tool around the tire to remove the black tire as it is glued to the wheel by reclamping the wheel several times. I used my 8" powered brass wire brush to remove the glue from the wheel.

I am really impressed with the tire quality and ease of installation for these Blue Max bandsaw tires and I highly recommend them. They are made in the USA with a LIFETIME WARRANTY!!!

Good to know. Never thought to look outside of SS for replacement supplies. Just goes to show that I am gaining more and more each day.billmayo wrote:I have struggled for years installing the black and orange tires on the Shopsmith bandsaw wheels.
