Ed, I'm guessin' here, but "wild rice?"
I'd pay as much for that, as that "pole."

Wood Identification - What is this?

Many years ago before the plastic night sticks I had a LV nightstick. As a 135 lb police officer it came in handy. I also remember a local wood expert telling ,me that during WWII that sometimes made ball bearings for ships out of LV.
I made a small biplane out of it and remember what it did to my tools, it wasn't pretty. The fumes it gave off were bordering on toxic.

Bearings, yes. Ball bearings, no. Think bushing bearing. Most likely split.wrmnfzy wrote:Many years ago before the plastic night sticks I had a LV nightstick. I have an antique mortar and pestle made of LV that my wife bought at an auction. Impressively heavy and hard.JPG40504 wrote:Bearings, yes. Ball bearings, no. Think bushing bearing. Most likely split.
Gale's Law: The bigger the woodworking project, the less the mistakes show in any photo taken far enough away to show the entire project!
