Sentimental workbench

Hello fellow woodworkers,

I am reaching out in every way I can think of... Long story short, I just inherited my father's Shopsmith after he passed away.
Back in the early to mid 1980's my father built a Butcher-block workbench from a design plan in a "Hands-On" mag. The article was titled "Space saving idea's for small workshops". The workbench was just tall enough and just long enough for a Shopsmith to fit underneath the table.
He built other cabinets and things to hold Shopsmith accessories, and no one in my family disputes that he built them to help organize his shop so I got those when I got his Shopsmith. My father showed me the workbench plans so I know they existed, and I know his intent for building the table. The article included a photo with a Shopsmith neatly tucked under the table, but I have an arrogant and pompous older brother that disputes this and has taken possession of the workbench.

Does anyone have old copies of the "Hands-On" mag that would email me a copy of this article. I have contacted Shopsmith Customer Service and they were not able to help me.

The only workbench I can find in the Hands-On copies on the present Shopsmith site is this - http://www.shopsmithhandson.com/archive ... /index.htm

But it is not the one you are looking for. Maybe one of the guys having a collection of the magazines will be able to help you.

I looked through the few issues I have and didn't see anything like that. But I would think a workbench tall enough for a Shopsmith to slide under it would be too tall to use as a workbench. The back cover of one of my issues has a picture of a storage shelf holding Shopsmith accessories with a Shopsmith slid under it.

A work bench that has room for a Shopsmith under it would obviously be made specifically for that purpose!!!

I know this isn't exactly what you are looking for but it's a common idea for the shopsmith to fit under a custom built shelf/workbench/etc. I do think if the shopsmith fits perfectly under the bench, I would expect them to stay together.

Thanks for the input one and all... The workbench that my father build WAS taller than normal, and thats just the point I made to my idiot brother. I even told him about the building plans that I SAW, but that made no difference.

Before the table left my father's workshop, I took a photo of it and scratched down some quick measurements just in case I ended up having to build a new one. I am number 8 out of 9 children, and at an early age I developed a love for wood working because of my father. Wood working was a special bond that just he and I had for many many years.

I have attached a copy of the picture I took. I would love to be able to email my brother a copy of the plans I saw so many years ago...
