Remote Switch

Wow I didn't know X10's were effected by power outages. I was seriously considering installing some in various places in my house. At my house we experience a power outage (momentary lost) about once every couple of days. My stove has a PF (power failure) light that I have to turn off nearly every other day.
Usually when we buy something we insist it has battery or capacitor back up, somehow this latest stove slipped through. Well at least my wife can't rid of me I'm the only one that know how to set the stupid stove's clock after each failure.
We usually lose power everytime I'm writing the last sentence in a long report or something. Love it when I get to start over.

All our computers have a UPS, some can only run for a few minutes but it is long enough to go through a momentary glitch. Small ones are very cheap and they also protect against line issues. If you get one from a major company they will guarantee the equipment will not be damaged from power spikes as well.

Just bringing up a heads up from this old thread about the remote switch for the dust collector which is currently on sale. I have this unit and love it, however I experienced my dust collector turned on and running after a recent thunderstorm so now when I am done in my shop after shutting the DC off with the remote, I also shut the DC off by the switch on the unit to prevent this from happening again.

I don't have the remote control except on some lights but I unplug the shop equipment from the wall outlets whenever I am going to be absent from the shop.

I do this mainly to stay out of trouble with SWMBO. One day she and a daughter were standing in the doorway (I was gone and had been fro a while) very near the air compressor. You guessed it. Startled both of them. I caught it along with orders to not leave "that thing" on ever again when I was not using it.

Boy does that sound familiar!!!

My wife HATES it when my compressor comes on automatically. I try very hard to remember to turn it off befor ascending those stairs!

I have a Jet collector and went out to the garage over the weekend and the DC was running. The remote was safely put away, I also suspect a power glitch causing the issue.

I have a couple of touch lamps that turn on by themselves too, when there is an anomaly with electricity.

Not only does my dust collector come on as well, but when I have a brief power outage, I find the T.V. in my hobby room comes on!
