Sanding disc comes loose.

Try putting a little bit of RTV on the set screw threads and let it set up then put the screw back in.
The RTV acts similar to blue Loctite but not as tight. It will prevent the screw from backing out.
My theory is that on older devices that have gotten rusted and then cleaned, enough metal can be lost to prevent the screw and the threads in the hub from mating correctly due to loss of metal. We are talking small parts and small tolerances so a little metal loss can cause a problem.
From one of your previous posts (#6) I will make the assumption that you are using a Power Pro; Correct?
A worn power coupler MAY cause a problem if the splines are worn. That would cause the PP to adjust speed and torque to take up for the wear and the high frequency vibration can cause the screws to loosen. ( I don't think that this a common problem ) Just thrown in for consideration.

Yes it is a power pro, couplers look OK to me, I will try the RTV.

Yes it is a power pro, couplers look OK to me, I will try the RTV.
So how is the sanding disk when the BS isn't connected?
SS 500(09/1980), DC3300, jointer, bandsaw, belt sander, Strip Sander, drum sanders,molder, dado, biscuit joiner, universal lathe tool rest, Oneway talon chuck, router bits & chucks and a De Walt 735 planer,a #5,#6, block planes. ALL in a 100 square foot shop.

We already know the power pro control program has 'issues' with the band saw.
We know the SPT specified to the power pro alters the control program.
I assume SS defined SPT load parameters used by the control program.
Adding an additional 'set' of load parameters(driving more than one load at a time) will likely confuse the control program.
We know that the control program will 'issue' sudden speed changes to the load(s).
So how cum this is a 'surprise'.
Agree it would be 'nice' to not have these things.
More complicated is not always 'better'.
Realize the magnitude of the undertaking(control program).
When one attempts to control what is undefined* initially will usually lead to 'problems'.

Seems to me there's a contradiction somewhere in there.

Adding a steel(I assume) sanding disc alters the reflected load 'seen' by the control program.
BTW I unnerstan the desire/need etc. to run them at the same time, but if sanding very long, it puts additional wear on the bandsaw. Rotating the disc doesn't, so no concern there(other than exposed rotating machinery!). I would be inclined to not swap back and forth, but do them sequentially.
Actually since I have more than one 'prime mover' I would set the operations up on different machines, but I would likely still do them sequentially.

While reading this post it reminded me of how little we know about the electronics of the powerpro.
One might guess that if you go to "bandsaw" on the chart and use the list to adjust the final speed setting that the machine now "knows" a bandsaw is installed and has a routine for that. But if you just use the speed setting to get to what you think is the proper speed then the program has no idea what is attached. Would it then react differently? I certainly do not know if that is a fact or not.
Like wise have have seen a well versed shopsmith seller say that the lathe reacts to "catches". How does it know that was a catch or something else happening? I could see that if you used the chart for lathe to do the set up but again if you just use the up/down power setting????
I'm like to know more about this but I don't believe we are going to get much out of shopsmith on the subject.

What I wonder, is what software module is loaded when the operator answers the start up questions and tells the PowerPro he is using the sanding disk. Is it the same module if he reports to be using the band saw.
Is the PowerPro being informed that it is loaded with both a band saw and a sanding disk?
Does Shopsmith agree that the PowerPro can be used with multiple loads?

Here is another thought, how about flip flopping the bandsaw and the sanding disk and see how that works.
Any thing driven off the quill side has the backlash of the spline to deal with while the other side is pulley driven. As we know the hall effect sensors are part of the motor and not on the drive train so mechanical differences could effect operations.
Just saying it might be worth a try.
