Thanks Dusty. I have a Mark V Serial #: 199873 ( I believe year is 1985). So would the narrow stop collar be the one I use then or the wider one for that ?
Thanks to JPG. Not the new one I was referring to the New Mark 7 Power Head. I have the Mark V Power Head with the serial number above I gave to Dusty and you in this comment. I did not pan on cutting either one if I take the Power Head off. I just wanted to make double sure there was not going to be an alignment problem with taking the Power Head off and putting it back on and to make double sure I need to use the narrow stop collar ring one or the wider stop collar ring one for my machine. Then I can have the right one on the machine if this makes more sense.
Thank you and hopefully giving the serial number will help and I will know for sure. I am enjoying and starting to learn to love my Shopsmith Mark V over some independent tools that were taking up more room. Look forward to hearing back and I hope you all are having a great day.

What table style do ya have? The 500,505,510 or the 520. If the tables were upgraded to the 510, then ya need to have the wider stop collar.
SS 500(09/1980), DC3300, jointer, bandsaw, belt sander, Strip Sander, drum sanders, molder, dado, biscuit joiner, universal lathe tool rest, Oneway talon chuck, router bits & chucks and a De Walt 735 planer,a #5,#6, block planes. ALL in a 100 square foot shop.

This chart would indicate that you have a Model 505 or 510 or 520 based on the serial number and date of manufacture.

Bob I am not sure how you tell the difference in the tables as I have never found any good images to show the differences which might help in having them or some kind of thorough description for not just me but others who purchase a used machine. I think it is like Dusty said in his comment that it is a Model 505, 510 or 520 based on my serial number.
I know the Table has been upgraded from the 505 I think to the 510.
Is there any difference in the Stands or anything that would show and tell which or what the differences are in the Table(s) ? That would be helpful. I know it sounds dumb but I have never owned a Shopsmith and I am trying to learn all I can about them. I know when I emailed Shopsmith about the machine and gave them the Serial Number they did tell me it was upgraded to the 510. That is why I was wondering if the stand that holds the way tubes are all the same on these machines and what or how to tell the differences in the upgrades to the tables. Hope that makes sense and thanks again everyone.
Thanks Dusty and Bob for your help here.

A picture of your main tables along with the rip fence will allow us to define for you what you have.Fred Grover wrote:Bob I am not sure how you tell the difference in the tables as I have never found any good images to show the differences which might help in having them or some kind of thorough description for not just me but others who purchase a used machine. Everything that fits on a 505 will work equally well on a 510. The 520 is further upgraded by changing the table rails and rip fence.

If your machine looks like any one of these, it definitely is not a 500. The tables tell the big difference. The Shopsmith web site no longer shows any good images of a 500.

[quote="JPG40504"]Considering the carriage and headstock castings are neither precision surfaces and the 'stops' are rubber and from your experience not dimensioned precisely either, I ain't surprised!]
I aint either, now. But ya know, I mention it only because when I noticed it I was surprised, not only at the discrepancy but surprised that I was surprised, for the vary reasons you cite and because of what I had been sorta expecting those bagels to do for me, precision-wise speaking, so to speak, as in ZCI psositioning. That is, surprised at realizing I was thoughtlessly assuming the collar could go either place.
And we mustn't fall into the trap of thinking that a collar made of more incompressible materials solves the 'which tube' question. I remember that after squashing the old donut and before replacing it I was using- with great success btw- a simple stick with a stop on it that lain upon and across the way tubes and was cut to precisely match my ZCI needs. I din realize that the carriage to stick to headstock interface occured only at the front.
Not a beeg t'ing, of course. Just one of those picky little details that from time to time cause a bit of headscratching. Good to be preemptively aware.

Thanks JoshH and Dusty those links helped a lot. Dusty here is the link you provided that I have for a table now if that helps.
http://www.shopsmith.com/ownersite/catalog/505to510.htm
And here is one of the tables that was given to me when we purchased the Mark V and was on the left hand side of the table in the two extra holes on the stand.
http://www.shopsmith.com/ownersite/catalog/500extentiontable.htm
One reason I am checking is I am thinking in the futre I want to upgrade to the 520 Table and the New PowerPro Head and want to make sure there is no problem with my stand or anything before doing this and that all the attachments I get in the future will work with it.
I was wondering if the Premium Caster Wheels could just be put on without the drilling and everything but I think that cannot be done as it would make the machine sit up to high off the floor. Can you shed some light on that too.
I can take some pictures of the stand and the table I have on it now with both ends of the stand for the way tubes on left and tight if it helps determine anything. Thanks again everyone as I appreciate your help and patience for the new learners here like myself.

The links you included above are of standard stuff and do not indicate any compatibility problems.
Do you have:
An extension table with 510 rails?
Two floating tables with 510 rails?
A fence that fits the 510 rails?
P.S. 4 Connector tubes, 2 telescoping legs and 2 t-joints.
An older extension table with the older fence rail.
A fence that fits the older extension table?
A yes to all but the last two indicates a 510 to 520 upgrade is possible.
The last two are useful as 'extra' support etc., but are not interchangable with the newer table and fence. Will come in handy many times. The older fence is not as useful as the table, but allows mounting a fence to the table.
P.S. The fence tells the tale all by itself. Three versions of a Mark V fence are 500/505,510/520.

So if your rip fence resembles this:Fred Grover wrote:Thanks JoshH and Dusty those links helped a lot. Dusty here is the link you provided that I have for a table now if that helps.
