My research on Craigslist and eBay suggests that it is time to sell (or at least join others who may have overpriced theirs). Saw one today listed for $13K (thousand). Other rusted junk for more than $1200. It’s been posted for a year. http://oklahomacity.craigslist.org/tls/4244597462.html

So, since I have a 510 in very good condition, 3 unused shapers, unused lathe tools, band saw with 4 blades, 3 just sharpened and in excellent condition carbide blades, a router table (work in progress) and miscellaneous other parts this should be worth at least $3000.

Now the fact that I paid $175 for a Mk. VII with the bandsaw, shapers, lathe tools and other stuff 15 years ago is irrelevant. I’ve already recuperated about $300 from what I parted out. The 510 was inherited with a small payment of $325 and I had to add an end able for another $40. So, if I did my math right that leads me to believe that $3000 is a reasonable price. Hey, those people on Craigslist and eBay can’t all be wrong.

For those of you who think that what you paid for something should determine the selling price (as many SS buyers do) consider the value of cars. How much did you pay for that Ford Pinto? Perhaps I should let my SS sit outside for a year, accumulate some rust and raise the price next year.

I like how the guy in OK City doesn't even bother to clear all the clutter from around the machine before taking the picture…you would think after a year they would get a clue to at least try to make a better presentation, not that it would lead to anyone paying anywhere near that for it but clearly they are delusional…and apparently lazy to boot.

If everybody who wants to sell a SS would all raise their prices today and raise them again month after month, in a year or so, all our own shopsmiths would be worth a lot more.
But that would be inflation.
But wait...???:D

Based on that theory we would all just spend more. We don't sell them we buy them. So keep the prices low please.

Crazy lady just listed another one in Dallas. People here are insane.

$3,800 for a 510 with a router table and jig saw.
$2,300 (reduced? OMG jump quickly) for a 510 and bandsaw that's been listed well over a year.
$1,100 for a base 500 model.

It's really just a Dallas thing I guess. Houston is the place to go for deals! $100 for a 510 with jointer.

Back in 2012, when I inherited my shopsmith from my dad, the prices seemed more normal. Then someone posted a 510 for $2,500 (still for sale for $2,300). There was a 500 for $1,200 and another 510 for $1,800, and those were the only ones listed for about a month. Then others saw those prices and jumped on the bandwagon.

I wish there was a way to delete all the ads here at once and start over. People look online what a new costs and on Craigslist what they see ads for, and then price themselves out of the market also. Someone else sees their post, and builds on that.

Perhaps those people on Craigslist saw it also, they are certainly as crazy as outhouse rats.
