Regarding " that is merely a cheap motor arbor that is available at any hardware store or even Woodcraft stores. ", I don't think so. I checked 4 of mine from a variety of sources and they are all about 3.5" long. The advert says the Deluxe is 6.25" long.

If that doesn't work out for you, you might want to look at Don Pencil's buffing adapter: http://www.donpencil.com/WNTADAPTORShtm.htm. I bought a set a few years ago, and although I haven't used it a great deal, it has worked fine for me. I don't recall the thread size, perhaps 1/2".
