Craft Supplies USA shipping update

Post by reible »

Woodturnerscatalog.com has made some changes to their shipping that you might want to know about.

The old free shipping for orders over $150 and the $7 flat rate for orders under $150 is history.

See the new rates here:

At least I was able to order the parts for a owl call, another spring project for me. I have a granddaughter that is really in to owls, hope to get one done for her before she moves on to something else.

Thanks for sharing that ED. I guess that a lot of companies are raising their rates or taking away free shipping with this economy as when other companies change their delivery rates and fees then they have to go with the flow. I cannot say I like it but nothing we can do about it other than go without or find somewhere local to buy things. I hope your Granddaughter enjoys her project. I have never seen an owl call but could be interesting to make. I have a lot of friends who enjoy nature and things like that.

Hi Fred,

I often but not always share projects here at the forums. I'd like to promise that this is one I will share but at this point who knows.

The "owl" part is a pre-made, pre-tuned reed part. You supply the wood and turn the parts to fit the call. This is my first time doing this but it seems quite simple.

Here is a video showing duck call being made:

Amazon, just before Christmas, raised the minimum for free shipping from $25 to $35.

Hey, that's what motivated me to order two packs of glue sticks to go my fancy new $25 hot-glue gun. Picked five bucks in future revenues right out of HD's pocket! :D

One of the reasons why we are "Prime" members at Amazon. It really is worth it if you shop a lot on Amazon.

Thanks Ed. And yes the Shipping and Handling Charges at some of these places are ridiculous. I have had items that might only cost for example around 6 Dollars and the Shipping and Handling is double that. Something wrong there. I guess if it is the only place to get an item you are stuck or go without it. This is why I always shop around but, I honestly like to try and find American Made Products which sometimes is hard to do too. May cost more but at least I am supporting an American Business and trying to keep jobs here. Just my 2 cents worth on that. You all have a great day my friends.

Well that was quick! Ordered on the 20th and here it is on the 22nd.

I'll open it and see if everything is in order, don't expect any surprises as they have always been right on with my other orders.

If I get some time I'll post some pictures of the owl call stuff that came. Really not much to it but by the time I read the directions and figure how all this goes I'll be an expert.

Picture time.

What is pictured left to right.

Game Call Turning kit. As I understand it I will be able to use my pen turning parts with these expandable white parts to hold the 1/2" and 3/4" blanks. The assorted brass and washers fill in and allow you to tighten things to achieve the grip you need. The letter F thing is a guide so you get the size right. That amounted to $7.95 and should be useful for any other game calls I might make.

Next is the compression bushing, it is used to interface the wood turning to the owl call. Since I'm really not an expert I'm not sure getting this was necessary but at $0.75 I went with it.

I also went with the wood blank material they mentioned. It comes cut and drilled and is Bocote, another $7.25 there.

The owl call comes with o-rings that interface the two parts of the call together. $3.30 seemed reasonable for that.

Future purchases can be pared down to just the call and the compression bushing so I don't feel too bad about this expenditure.
