Interesting mix of different 510 table version parts. Did the router table come that way?

I bought the Bosch router as a plunge router but it came with a hand held base as well. Later ordered the under the table accessory, part # RA-1165 about $100.00 plus shipping. I don't remember where it came from eBay or maybe Amazon.

[ATTACH]24343[/ATTACH]For those that may be pursuing this idea, I am attaching a couple of photos of this concept with the router mounted in a work station panel laying on top of the 510 main table and extension. I have not cut any miter slots and probably won't since I use the table for other things.

I was inquiring re the 510 table, not the router. The 510 table contains parts from different versions of the 510 table.

Looking at the underside pix, it seems only the thumb screws are later version parts. The rest is older version.

Did you replace the smaller ones with the current style?

In November 1986 I purchased from SS an upgrade table they called a "Versa-Table" with the new style tubes on the sides. The new option just became available at $359.00. When I received the system it never worked worth a *&^%. I called Shopsmith and complained because the tubes would not stay tight. In spite of everything I tried, they would work loose at absolutely the wrong time. Shopsmith informed me that they had a large number of complaints and had redesigned the way the tubes would be attached to the table. Instead of using a Torx screw driver to tighten screws through the holes you see, they used bolts with nuts on the back side. They sent me a new replacement unit and told me to through the other table in the trash. I followed "almost" all of their request. I don't use the tubes when using the router anyway. What you are looking at is the original "Versa-Table.

If you will notice looking at the pics from beneath, on the Versa-Table where the tubes are attached there are no nuts, but on the newer table you can plainly see nuts for attachment.

That difference and the holes in the front of the tubes are what clued me to the older style. The thumb screws are 'newer' style. So that made me curious.

The older(holey) tubes are thicker so they do not perfectly line up with newer(thinner) tubes on the inner surfaces. Your application is not affected by that mismatch.

Do I understand correctly the torx screws were coming loose? This is important to me since mine are the older version(still in the to do pile).

I put Loctite on the screws 28 years ago, they have not worked loose since. I also have not used the machine requiring the use of the table fence to any extent since then. The design was obviously a problem or SS would not have redesigned it. I do believe Loctite would have solved the problem for others. Now I have a mystery to solve. I know they replaced the extension table as well but for the life of me, I don't know where it is??

Question, Is the only way to post photos on this forum so they show in the post is to use a web-site such as photobucket or something similar? I have been posting directly from my computer.
