Miter Gauge Extension

Post by mgbbob »

I have long term plans to convert one of my Dubby sleds to the 510 but short term I was thinking of purchasing a Shopsmith Miter Gauge Extension. Anyone using one? Any comments would be helpful.

I don't use the Shopsmith version of the miter gauge extension. I have many home made versions of various lengths from a simple 2x4 through plywood to red oak. All work just fine for me.

The "bible" of the Shopsmith, "Power Tool Woodworking for Everyone" has instructions on making your own: http://www.shopsmith.com/academy/tblsaw ... osscutting

If item "E" in this link is what you are talking about, YES! I have one and use it almost all the time. http://www.shopsmith.com/ownersite/cata ... rgauge.htm I leave it attached to the gauge all the time, almost. Some rare uses cause me to take it off. If you mean the wood one - No have never used it.

If you buy their "Miter Pro" You can also use the long leg as the extension. The long leg and the extension are the same thing.

yes, I have built a couple of extensions myself but think the factory job may have some advantages. I am guessing the difference between the E and the F is the E is longer but the stop block doesn't flip up out of the way.

I have used the 'C' version since day one! I have made a couple of longer ones since. The longer ones can have a stop clamped to it. That could be hinged as well! A t-slot on top would make that easier. I think the router table fence has such a stop.
