JPG, you are expecting everyone to act and think as you would have them act and think. That is not the trick. Now I know you will have a come back but don't expect an argument from me. I have said all that I am going to say on that subject.
With regard to the jointer problem, it has already been said, in so many words, that the infeed and outfeed tables are not coplanar when adjusted for zero depth of cut. That is the issue that needs to be resolved. If the two tables are not coplanar, it is nearly impossible to create a jointer that works correctly.

Okay I did some more reading in the jointer manual last night. They mention for the original set up you may need to adjust the hieght of the jointer blades and they give 2 senerios, too high, and 2 low. Now these are the original manuals and IMHO did not go into great details compaired to some I have had.
Anyway, even though the tables are not in "coplanar" as Dusty said, they mention in so may words, and as "I inturpeded" that if the blades are too high, I could be getting the same effect when planing. Going to check that too since I pulled them to clean up the cutter head, and did not check that since I will have to send them out for sharping.

In reality, there is nothing that can be done with blade adjustment to fully compensate for the infeed and outfeed tables not being coplanar.
In use, the difference between infeed and outfeed height (with respect to one another, determines the depth of cut. If the infeed table is is anything other than flat and coplanar (with respect to the outfeed table), the resulting depth of cut and orientation will be inconsistent.
In this link, the Woodwhisperer discusses jointer setup. He uses a jointer that is far superior to our little Shopsmith jointer, but the principles for setup are all the same.

Just an opinion but I am sticking to it: If you can not make the infeed and outfeed tables perfectly coplanar, you can not properly tuneup the jointer.
My tables are NOT perfectly coplanar. Using the infeed table surface as the surface of reference, the outfeed table drops off about .003". I am fortunate that the infeed and outfeed tables are properly aligned from side to side. What this tends to produce is a slight (very slight) taper from end-to-end. Fortunately, the fence and table surfaces can be adjusted to a consistent angle from end to end of the fence.

The objective here is to determine 'Why' the tables are not coplaner.
To do so requires more concise 'detail' than was being provided.
I believe the comments have had the desired effect.
There are two(or more) possible deviations(side to side, and end to end). Rotation about a vertical axis should not be an issue unless it is causing the misalignment. Since(AIUI) the tables have been separated, it is quite likely that the sliding surfaces are not 'meshed' correctly. The combination of l/r and end to end height variation may provide clues s to what to look for.
There may be something in there that should not be that is cocking the tables.
Pix will likely provide any meaningful clues.
