Gifted a Shopsmith; Now what?

Good evening,

I was recently given a Shopsmith by a good friend of mine and it needs some cleanup. Most of the parts(Way Tubes, Planer, Tables, etc) have oxidation/crud on them and there are parts still in boxes, so I'm not sure what I have exactly. I've downloaded the maintenance guide from the newbie sticky and I'll start running through that tomorrow.

Is there a preferred products for cleaning/polishing up the Way Tubes to make moving the motor easier?

I'll upload photos of what I have and would really appreciate it if the community would be able to help identify what I have.

Shaun where are you located ? Maybe we can get you some local help. First thing is it is all fixable. Second have FUN and ENJOY your new (used) Shopsmith. Post some pics so we can see what we are dealing with.

Good morning. I currently live in the east Orlando area. Personally, I would prefer to do the work myself.

I'm still looking for guidance on what products to use to clean the metals.

A quick correction. I would prefer to not send it off to a shop. Local advice and guidance is appreciated.

That will probably depend on the amount of rust/crud, and the advice may also vary depending on who's giving it. Anywhere from some light sanding and waxing, using Kroil and EvapoRust, or building an electrolysis tank! Pictures would help us help you.
