Has any one done one of these "Honor Flights"

One of my brothers lives in northern WI and has signed up for one of these free one day flights to Washington DC. He was in the AF, radar operator, spent a year in Alaska on the line up there. While he was between wars he is still very much a vet.

His turn will be coming up mid this month. Just wonder if any one here has done it and if you have any comments or helpful hints on the day.

I'm hope to be there when he lands back home after the day. A 6 plus hour drive so I think I'll do the rest of the trip up to our UP house and check it out after the nasty winter. Also get to spend a bit more time with him.

North Dakota did quite a few Honor Flights a few years ago for the WWII vets. I'm not that old, so I don't have any personal experience with the flights. Some vets I knew went on the flights, but they have passed on now.

I know of several of our vets who went on the flights, and also just returned from DC yesterday where I saw some at Reagan National either coming or going home. It was unusually cold in DC, but was beginning to warm when we left. For example, on Sunday they had snow. So you should check the weather in making plans on what to pack.

The vets I know loved it. It is important that they are accompanied by family or a loved one. I regret that my father died before these trips were being made. I know that the airlines on these honor flights are very helpful.
