If you would mail me the extra key, I will l have one made and mail it back to you and would be glad to pay you for your trouble?

My email address is chknspit@cox.net

It's my understanding there is a lever where you disengage the rack so the motor head can be slid like a Mark V? If this is not so let me know.

I just went and dug out the extra RAS key I have. I'd be happy to send it to you. PM your address to me and I'll try to get it in the mail today.

It's a very short key with "Chicago" stamped around the handle with the code "YPP" engraved on it. I did a quick google search and found this:

http://lostakey.net/index.php?main_page ... s_id=11739

I don't know with absolute certainty it's the right key. But, I thought I'd share it as an interesting resource.

YPP = bingo!!!!!

P.S. Make two copies!!! Stash one for safe keeping! It is a double bit key so a copy costs 'more'.

Don't you still need the SS code so it can be cut to fit?

If you have Heath's key, all you need do is copy it.

There is a lever knob on the belt cover that disconnects the traverse gear.

If you are 'itching' to determine if the motor even runs, remove the belt cover, remove the belt off the motor pulley, drop the motor pan(all the wiring, switch, interlock, lock are in the motor pan). Remove the key lock interlock bar and have at it!:D

I would first push the 'forward' switch, then plug it in. Unplug it and repeat with the 'reverse' switch. If all is well, push 'stop' to turn it off.

Good Luck!

P.S. YPP is de code!

The lever on the belt cover is missing. Looking at the shaft it looks to be about 1/4" with a flat on one size. I know I have some knobs around here somewhere that will probably fit it. If not Lowes probably does. In the meantime, vise grips. Really not feeling well at all after going to pick it up and getting things back in order so I can get my pickup back in the garage. The SS is still in the back of the truck. Had to drive to Claremore, Ok and back to get it.

I am not going to mess with it until I get the key, I can wait that long, hopefully heathicus will mail it.

P.S. Gotta ask, are you painting your restoration of you Mark VII gold or did it come that way?

I have the lever and I can mail it to you. When I have time tomorrow I'll send you an email with a picture (just to be sure it is what you want).

YPP is the Key

Post by eaglo »

The YPP stands for Yuba Power Products, which you know owned the Shopsmith brand for a time in the 1950's and 60's. I've read many times that all the machines are keyed the same and that the Mark 7's and the Sawsmith Radial Arm Saws shared the same key.

After paying The Widow $200 for that thing, you're sure to have nothing but good fortune and luck with its future.
