However, has anyone tried using some REAL Shopsmith tubes on a mark-whatever? I wonder how much better it runs. (Until you've got to lift it into drill-press mode.)

Better yet, put the freeze-plug caps on them, and fill them with lead shot, and see how much better the lathe works. (Yes, even on the 900 pound ER, that is an improvement. (Note, the ER may NOT weigh 900 pounds, but it feels that heavy!)

Great, my Franken-adapter-Smith will weigh 1800 pounds! (Or close.)

If you are serious about adding weight (and your pockets are deep enough), you could order a pair of these :eek: :D

They even have stainless with 1/4" walls.
