10ER jigsaw bolt

Post by rjent »

Hi again. The resto is going good, things are pretty clean and not a whole lot of rust. I am trying a rust removal/polishing technique that is different than what I have seen for the tubes, if it works like it is so far, I will post some pictures and techniques.

One thing I have found is the jigsaw is missing is the big hold down bolt for the jigsaw. The manual shows a bolt and spacer and it is a special bolt. The bolt has a shoulder on it so I assume that it "bottoms" out on the headstock. The spacer prevents that????? Anyway, I can only find the bolt on ebay, kind of pricey, but a few available. Any advice on what I need, and where to get it?

Thanks in advance!

The bolt is a shoulder bolt. The spacer is used when you remove the upper arm so that the saw can be used as a sabre saw. As I recall, Skip Campbell over on Yahoo 10erusers sold a replacement bolt. I have an old bushing to use as a spacer.

OK brother, thanks. I am a member on the Yahoo group. I will check with Skip. Let me know what you want for the spacer if you want to get rid of it. Or if you don't could I get you to measure it so I can make one :)

Thanks for answering....

Someone posts new replacements on e-bay from time to time. I saw one posted there last week.

Thanks eaglo, I saw two this morning. I guess someone is making replacement bolts (according to the description). I went ahead and bought one of the original ones. I can figure out the spacer as needed. :)

Dick, I can't give you a description of the spacer, but I'm pretty sure you can figure it out.

It has to slip over the whole length of the bolt, and rest just under the head, and it needs to be as thick as the base of the upper half of the jigsaaw.

Or, inner diameter is the same (or a couple thousandths over) as the diameter of the bolt above the shoulder. Outer diameter doesn't matter, since you only use it with the upper half off.

Thanks Steve. It is a hard material?, or would something like copper tubing work? I am assuming it is just for stabilizing the lower part of the saw. I was also thinking about a cheap Chinese deep socket of the appropriate length and diameter cut/ground to length. Anyway, I appreciate the info ....
