Sorry, been a bit busy with some clean up and other stuff after this flood. Didn't get a memo on building an ark, but turns out didn't really need one. Thank you for checking on us. I grew up in the East Tennessee, so I needed a hill to live on so I could walk straight. :D I happen to live about 90 feet above sea level, but insurance companies won't insure our house because we are within 2 miles of the bay. However, if a tidal wave should come in, I may be living on waterfront property. :D Won't happen in my lifetime. Anyway, the news does not give full coverage, but samples of tragedies from Mobile, AL to Crestview, FL. Trucks can't go because of bridges out, roads out where culverts used to be, rail roads out, etc. Schools have been closed the past 2 days, the mail didn't run yesterday and UPS and FedEx will start running again on Friday when school is opened. It is very much like the results of a hurricane, but personally, I would rather have had the hurricane. We don't normally get this much rain with a hurricane. We get more wind. Prefer to not have either. Some 300,000 folks were without electricity as of this morning. Some poles and lines are on unstable ground and underground utilities are washed up or broken from the flooding. Now, we have to watch the trees to ensure they remain standing.

Thank you for checking on us and for your prayers. Will pass that info on to the neighbors, the MS support group and our church. Most of us are doing well. Many offices have closed up and moved. Stores in the remaining mall flooded from the collapsing roof and water rushing in from the slanted parking lot. The jail had an explosion last night about 11 pm and it is about 1.5 miles from the house. They think it was leaking gas caused from the deluge. Anyway, the explosion rattled the house. Windows were broken in nearby houses, water lines broken and all that. So, it's been fun. But, I got paid today, so hoping all is well again. :D :D I am well blessed.

(New Nova chuck on order from Shopsmith. Can hardly wait.)

Beeg,

We had 15.55 inches of rain at the airport before midnight when they dump the guage. But, it continued raining until about 6 am and it wasn't just a rain. Other official guages collected from 24 - 26" of rain. Of course, the airport record is the only one that counts. It was so heavy, it was like fog. These folks who you saw in the washed out ravines (which did not exist the night before) were on their way to work.

I've been here since 1971 and no one can remember a rain such as this. Maybe for an hour or two, but not 20 hours of steady and hard rain.

Thanks, all, for your concern and prayers. We greatly appreciate your concern.

In 79 Tampa had about 18 inches in 12 hours. I remember man hole covers in the sidewalk shooting up into the air as the maintenance man for the building across the street from the office building I was in was trying to replace them. He gave up and put four cones around them so no one would step into one. The cone lasted about minute then they lined up and floated out of sight down the street. He spend the rest of day warning people not to step in the hole. I don't know if it was wave action or what but about every minute the water would gush out of them throwing the man hole cover about 10 feet into the air.

We got what was left of your storm today it dumped about 6 inches on me. Some places in Tampa are flooded, but in most cases the water magically goes away in a couple hours.

The 2 acre pond in my back yard came up about foot or more from all the run off.
