I don't know many cases but I actually got an old SS vise with one Mark V that was locked and it took a lot of work to release it

I think the design (old model at least) has problem because the treaded rod can't keep the jaw perpendicular and shifts and locks between the outside rods

Probably this is for another thread under tools review but we were on the subject : )

Well, Nancy's friend picked up the bench, and she was very happy with it. Turns out it is about 60 years old, so it is a real piece of furniture. I told her to make sure nobody stands on it, and that I could fix it again if need be. I would not let her pay me.
